Studies in the Romanov Dynasty as Art Collectors

program | course leaders | participants | evaluation

This two-week English-language school, based on the famous collections of the State Hermitage museum, studied the patronage and collecting of the Romanovs from the early XVIII to the early XX centuries. The teaching included alternating "Days In" with lectures and workshops in the Hermitage and "Days Out" with visits to Imperial residences in St. Petersburg and its suburbs.

The course offered unprecedented access to art treasures usually not available to the public as well as opportunities to discuss issues concerning a given collection with its museum curator.

Additional cultural program (visits to the theaters and concert halls, etc.) was offered at participantsí expenses.

The School was intended for graduate students, professional art historians, museum curators, and teachers, as well as those interested independently in the history of art.
